My name is Landen Nelson, and I am a sophomore at Butler University, majoring in Sports Media with a minor in Strategic Communications. I am an aspiring broadcaster with dreams of becoming a play-by-play commentator for NASCAR and INDYCAR—a passion that began when I was six years old, racing my NASCAR die-cast cars around the living room floor.
At Butler, I have gained valuable experience across multiple forms of sports media. I currently serve as a color commentator for Butler Volleyball, a sideline reporter for Butler Women's Basketball, and an anchor for Butler Sports Live halftime shows on ESPN+.
While broadcasting is my ultimate career goal, I strive to become one of the most versatile professionals in the media industry.
As a member of the WTTS 92.3 FM Promotion Street Team, I represent the station at concerts, community events, and live activations throughout Indianapolis. I believe every interaction matters because one's first impression can shape a listener's connection with a station for years to come.
I recently completed a Marketing & Content Creator Internship with Butler University's College of Communication, where I helped drive community engagement across both the Butler and Indianapolis communities. During my internship, I assisted in developing the "CCOM15" campaign, which celebrated the College of Communication's 15th anniversary while embracing Indiana's rich motorsports culture. Through the efforts of our intern team, the college raised more than $50,000 during Butler's Day of Giving.
One of the most defining moments of my career came during high school when I received two Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Awards for Best Radio Sports Talk Program and Best Radio Drama. Those honors gave me the confidence to pursue my passion for sports and storytelling while embracing the unique perspective I bring to the industry.
Beyond professional success, my greatest motivation is my mother, whose support, sacrifice, and guidance have shaped the person I am today. Every opportunity and achievement I have earned is a reflection of the foundation she built for me, and I am committed to using those opportunities to create the best possible future for both of us.
I am always looking to connect with fellow media professionals, broadcasters, and industry leaders. If you would like to connect or discuss internship and job opportunities, feel free to reach out via email at landennelson77@gmail.com or connect with me on LinkedIn.
My job during the race was filming on the leader camera.
